Our nervous system is simply amazing!

My clinical experience with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and my work for over a decade with people who experience FND in their daily lives leaves me with many observations, some of which I will share here:

🌟 The nervous system is a very intricate system in the human body. It multi-tasks and does so many things. One of it's main roles is to absorb the shock of stress and mount an appropriate response.

🌟 Stress affects us at multiple levels. The nervous system predicts and responds to stress, it stores and processes it, it learns and digests it and finally it integrates and assimilates it.

🌟 A lot of stress is "relational" in nature by something or someone. Unhealed stress sets up unhelpful behavioural responses.

🌟 A nervous system that is under stress, usually chronic gets dysregulated. It means it is not in balance and not in harmony. It keeps us on edge, make us hypervigilant and easily triggered. Nothing feels safe.

🌟 So a key aspect of healing involves the regulation of a dysregulated nervous system. There are many ways of regulating the system, it can be done at an individual level or in the presence of someone (co-regulation).

In 2025, I am proud to be part of a fabulous team of colleagues united in their mission to help people regulate and thrive.

Make way for the "Nervous System Economy" 🦋
